Boiler Ordinance
The San Francisco boiler ordinance became effective in July, 1993 after San Francisco residents complained about the suspect safety of boilers in some residential buildings as well as the boilers ability to provide minimum levels of heating comfort. The boiler ordinance states that:
- All low pressure commercial-type water heating and steam generating boilers in residential buildings be inspected annually by a Class C-4 licensed boiler inspector.
- A low pressure water heating system is one which generates hot water at 160 psi or less and at 250 degrees (F) or less.
- A low pressure stem generating boiler is one which generates steam at 15 psi or less.
